portrait prize for art teache

An art teacher has won this year's BP Portrait Award for an oil painting of his 12-year-old daughter. Peter Monkman's winning piece, Changeling 2, is part of a series of portraits he has painted of Anna at different stages of her life. The 44-year-old won £25,000 and a commission worth £4,000. The painting will go on display at the National Portrait Gallery, in London, from Thursday, as part of the BP Portrait Award exhibition. Now in its 30th year, it is one of the most prestigious portrait competitions in the world, and highlights the best in contemporary painting.
